Fencers Drop Two to Penn

The Harvard fencing teams ran into a pair of brick walls down in Philadelphia, with the men's team dropping a 21-6 decision to a nationally-ranked Penn squad while the women's team lost to the Quakers, 11-5.

"We were plagued with inexperience," said Captain Adam Weintraub, referring to the fact that freshmen and sophomores comprise two-thirds of the team. "We lost a couple close bouts because of questionable directing, also."

But Weintraub came out looking more like the bricklayer than the victim. Weintraub stunned Second Team All-Ivy Chris O'Loughlin, the 1987 NCAA champion in epee.
