By John B. Trainer, Crimson Staff Writers

The Harvard men's volleyball team opened its 1992 campaign Saturday against the College of New Paltz in New York, N.Y.

The Crimson narrowly escaped with a five-game victory in a match dominated by strong hitting and a lack of defense by both squads.

Killing Spree

Junior Albert Kim led the Crimson with 24 kills from the outside, while junior Per Dutton provided a strong middle attack, accumulating 18 kills on 36 attempts.

Other contributors included Brian Jones (21 kills), Jon Carpenter (10 kills) and Cody Church (8 kills). Off the bench, freshman Abbas Hyderi provided solid passing and stabilized the back row.

Captain Vince Marin collected 81 assists in the hole, but after the game blasted his team's performance.

"We're still undefeated," Marin said, "but at this level of play we'll get hammered by larger teams.

Harvard plays Dartmouth tonight at 7:00 on the top floor of the Malkin Athletic Center.
