WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TO FACE NORTH CAROLINA IN FIRST ROUND OF NCAA TOURNEY

By Eduardo Perez-giz

The Harvard women's basketball team learned the identity of its first-round opponent for the NCAA Tournament last night. The Crimson (20-6) was awarded a No. 16 seed in the East Region and will face the University of North Carolina (27-2) on Friday night in Chapel Hill, N.C.

"We're thrilled," Harvard coach Kathy Delaney-Smith said. "I love the classic matchup."

The Tar Heels are the fourth-ranked team in the nation and the number one seed in the East. On Saturday they captured their third ACC Championship in the last four years.

Harvard made history this year by completing the first ever undefeated Ivy League season. The Crimson now hopes to earn the school's and the league's first-ever tournament victory. Look for a complete tournament preview in Wednesday's paper.
