Council Out of Place

By Melissa R. Langsam -

Perhaps voters did not give Republicans a mandate to transform America into a conservative nation in 1994, but more clearly, the Unergraduation Council has no student mandate to issue decisions on national political issues. When I voted for my council representatives, I heard no one's views on labor relations. No candidate shared that information since it was considered tangential. It is.

The council should focus on issues pertaining to the quality of life on campus. Members should promote their individual political interests through the proper student organizations rather than use the council as a bully pull pit for their own agendas.
