Survey Methodology

By Elizabeth S. Zuckerman

The Crimson survey of Jan. 9-11 targeted a pool of 558 undergraduates chosen at random. Those who were not reached by phone the first time were called again. The survey had a 75 percent response rate, meaning that 421 students actually responded to the questions.

The pool was selected at random from the College phone book. The survey's methodology was approved by Managing Director of the School of Public Health John M. Benson, who has extensive professional experience in the field.

The questions were developed with the aid of Associate Professor of Statistics in Department of Health Care Policy Alan M. Zaslavsky '68.

The survey's margin of error varies by question, but does not exceed 6 percent on any single question.

The Crimson takes full responsibility for the methodology, results and analysis of the surveys.
