Student Tailgate Relocated Next to McCurdy Track

The Harvard-Yale student tailgate will be officially moved from Ohiri Field to the parking lot at 175 North Harvard St., south of McCurdy Track, Dean of the College Benedict H. Gross '71 announced this morning.

The change follows College administrators' concerns over the "standing water" and overall compromised condition of Ohiri due to the rain. Gross added that there will be some "logistical changes," involving entrance locations, food tents, and alcohol stations. Details are posted on the official website for the tailgate. According to Gross, the new location was chosen after consulting with the athletics department, the Harvard University Police Department, and community affairs.

The new location brings with it "space limitations," meaning that student organizations with approved spots at the tailgate will be condensed and fewer vehicles will be allowed in, according an update on the official tailgate website. Groups with reserved spots will be able to enter the parking lot from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. All students will be allowed inside the tailgate starting at 9:30 a.m.

The alumni tailgates will not be affected by the move, Campus Life Fellow John T. Drake '06 wrote in in an e-mail.

Last night's pep rally in the Yard was canceled due to forecasts of inclement weather. Individual House stein clubs and the freshman study break in Annenberg Hall were carried out according to plans. There are also no anticipated changes to tonight's tri-House party in Pforzheimer, Quincy, and Winthrop House dining halls.

"Help bring success to this weekend's events, including tonight's events in the Houses, by acting responsibly, considerately, and consistently with our community standards as you celebrate in Boston and Cambridge," Gross stated in the announcement.
