To the editors:
Re: “A Tarnished Opal,” editorial, Apr. 27.
The plagiarism that recently occurred is not unexpected—I am sure that plagiarism happens from time to time on many campuses. While that is a disturbing trend, my attention was caught by the fact that the book publisher would offer such a high amount for only two books. I find it terribly disturbing that a 17-year-old college student can receive a $500,000 contract, and plagiarize so boldly.
Meanwhile, as a hard-working student, I have put myself through school as an original writer, photographer, and web designer. Trying to get through college on a meager wage, I have had to take time away from doing the work that I love to work late nights.
