Claire Ochal Takes Helm as Head Coach of the Harvard-Radcliffe Heavyweights

As Harvard women’s heavyweight rowing enters its 2023 season and the historic Head of the Charles Regatta approaches, Claire Ochal begins her first year as head coach of the team. Ochal replaces previous head coach Liz O’Leary, who had an incredible 37-year impact on Crimson heavyweight rowing.

In Her Senior Season, Harvard Women's Volleyball's Ashley Wang Makes Triple-Doubles History

Ashley Wang recorded her sixth triple-double of the season on Oct. 6 as Harvard women’s volleyball  (11-5, 4-3 Ivy League) took on Princeton in its 13th game of the season. An athlete that scores double figures in three or more of five statistical categories— aces, kills, digs, blocks, assists — posts a triple-double. Wang is now one triple-double shy of setting the school record, meaning she had double-figures.

Sailing to Success: Harvard's Marbella Marlo Charts a Course of Triumph

Competing against 20 other teams, Marlo and the Los Huevos —composed of six sailors, three coming from the Harvard Sailing Team —dominated the waters of Mission Bay, Calif. They advanced through the quarterfinals, winning three matches, and ultimately claimed the prestigious George R. Hinman Trophy — a symbol of excellence in team racing and one of the most coveted prizes for regattas.


First-Year Golfer Lauren Wong Makes Impressive Debut at Yale Invitational

Entering her first collegiate golf tournament at this year’s Yale Invitational, first-year Lauren Wong immediately made a statement on the green. Walking onto the team was already a huge personal victory for Wong, and this weekend was the icing on the cake. Competing in the individual event, she finished with an impressive score of three-over 75 and posted the second most pars in the event with 15. Wong finished the tournament tied for 15th.


Buddy’s Buddy: The Lifelong Friendship of Two Football Legends

Buddy Teevens, former head coach of Dartmouth College football and life-long friend of Harvard football head coach Tim Murphy, passed away last week following a tragic biking accident he suffered in March. ‘C6 H0’: The History and Legacy of Harvard Football’s Stunning 1921 Loss to Centre College

Inscribed today on a wall in the campus of Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, is a short combination of white letters and numbers: “C6 H0.” Centre’s students first carved this message into the brick on October 29, 1921, to celebrate the score, six to zero, of their football team’s improbable victory over Harvard University, then among the most dominant programs in American college football.


Kentucky Leaders

Over one hundred years ago, historic powerhouse and reigning national champion Harvard football lost to Centre College by the narrow margin of six to zero. Centre, which traveled to play the Crimson from Danville, Ky., was led by these four players, particularly quarterback Bo McMillin.


Like Father Like Son

My father, a graduate of Centre College, and I were on Centre’s campus in July 2021, where we found the wall that continues to commemorate the outcome of the game in 1921.


A Century Later

My father and I during freshman parents’ weekend in November 2019. We watched the Harvard-Dartmouth football game that Saturday afternoon, which, like Centre versus Harvard in 1921, ended in a low score of Dartmouth nine, Harvard six.
