Dr. George C. Shattuck '31 died at his home in Boston, Wednesday evening. Dr. Shattuck was graduated from Harvard in the same class with Wendell Phillips and James Lothrop Motley. After graduation he studied law but soon changed to the Medical School from which he was graduated in 1835. In 1857 Dr. Shattuck was appointed professor of chemical medicine in the Harvard Medical School and was soon after transfered to the chair of theory and practice of medicine which he resigned in 1874. Among his colleagues were Drs. O. W. Holmes, H. O. Bowditch. and H. J Bigelow. He was president of the Massachusetts Medical Society from 1872 to 1874, and was also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was the foremost layman in the diocese of Massachusetts and was almost 50 years a delegate to the Episcopal conventions. About 1845 with some friends he established the Church of the Advent and has been very closely identified with it ever since. His interest in educational affairs led him in 1856 to found St. Paul's School at Concord, N. H., which has since become one of the largest and most successful of our fitting schools. The funeral will be at the Church of the Advent this morning at 11.
