At the Newton winter tennis tournament yesterday, nine matches in the first round were decided. Three of them were won by default.

Most of the playing was close and interesting. T. Field '97 beat R. C. Thomas '96 in an exciting three set match, of which the outcome remained doubtful until the last moment. H. J. Holt '98 also won a close game.
