This afternoon the 'Varsity will play the University of Virginia nine on Holmes Field. During the spring vacation Virginia defeated the Yale team 13-5, but on Monday of this week the same nine was beaten by Princeton 18-4, and yesterday by Yale 5-4.

The batting order of the two teams is as follows:

HARVARD. VIRGINIA.

Burgess, r. f. 2b., Martin.

Rand, l. f. 3b., Hoxton.

Haughton, 1b. p., c f. Collins.

Scannell, c. p., c. f., Mellor.

Beale, c. f. l. f., Bonney.

Stevenson, 3b. r. f., Steptoe.

Dean, 2b. 1b., Hunt.

Chandler, s. s. c., McNair.

Fitz, p. c., Cochran.

s. s., O'Keefe.

Yesterday afternoon the nine devoted almost all their practice to batting. After the usual practice at the nets, the substitutes took the field and the regular nine practiced batting in their regular batting order. This was kept up for about twenty minutes when the substitutes went to the bat and the 'Varsity took their turn in the field. The practice was much better than heretofore, as every one seemed to put more dash and life into the work. This was due for the most part to the energetic coaching of Frank Hallowell '93 and Mr. Smith.
