YALE 1901, 9; HARVARD 1901, 8.

Strong Fielding by Yale.- Good Hitting and Base-running by Harvard.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Yale 1901 beat the Harvard Freshmen 9 to 8 in a close game at New Haven Saturday. The result was in doubt until the ninth inning when Clark scored the winning run for Yale after making a three base hit.

The Yale freshmen did the better fielding, while Harvard 1901 was especially strong at bat, their hits being well placed and timely. Stickney gave way after the sixth inning to Robertson, who allowed but one of Harvard's eleven hits. Putnam led the batting for Harvard with a two-bagger and a base hit, out of four times at bat. For Yale, Clark knocked a two base hit in the fifth inning which brought in two runs, and a triple in the last inning. In the fifth inning, Yale secured five runs by bunching hor hits.

The base running of the Harvard Freshmen was the feature of the game, for eleven stolen bases were secured to Yale's two. A neat double play in the last inning with men on second and third spoiled Harvard's chances of scoring.
