Opening Chapel Services.

The opening services in Appleton Chapel were held last evening before a large congregation. Professor F. G. Peabody introduced President Faunce of Brown, who took as the text of his sermon "Oh, God Thou art my God." After a hasty review of the various religious beliefs of the Medieval Age, Dr. Faunce spoke of "The True Worship" of today. The Rev. Endicott Peabody then spoke in behalf of the new Board of College Preachers, and Professor Shaler concluded the services with a short address favoring more regular attendance at morning prayers.

Last evening's services provided the opportunity for the public to see the improvements made in the interior finish and decorations of the Chapel during the summer. Electric lights have been put in and a new ventilating system keeps the building filled with fresh air. The walls and ceiling have been re-painted and the organ -- formerly worked by hand power--now has an electric bellows. The cost of these improvements was about $6000.
