Freshmen, 11; Exeter, 11

The Freshman eleven was almost defeated by Exeter, on Saturday, the final score being a tie, 11 to 11. Only two successful end plays in the last minute of play enabled the Freshmen to tie the score. Hutchinson's failure to make a good punt-out lost the chance of winning.

A number of offside plays by Exeter, with two costly fumbles, gave the Freshmen their first touchdown. Exeter's line plays, especially a rolling tandem formation on tackles, were effective, and made the score for the first half even, 6 to 6. In the second half Brill and Hutchinson exchanged punts, a slight superiority in the Freshman ends giving Hutchinson an apparent advantage. Finally, with five minutes to play, Exeter renewed her attack on the Freshman line, which was now weakened by substitutes, and scored with ease. Strassburger's attempt at goal hit the cross-bar. After the kickoff, Exeter was held for downs, and two end runs by Hutchinson tied the score. Hutchinson's punt-out went far over the heads of the backs. No one of the three Freshman left tackles who played in the game could defend his position. Jones at right tackle did much better. The whole offense lacked any kind of team play. Hutchinson's punting was steady, and the work of the ends good.
