The Freshman team played a practice game with the second University eleven yesterday afternoon on the University field, directly after the Amherst game. In spite of their disadvantage in weight the Freshmen repeatedly held the scrub for downs, and during the first few minutes of play, were fully as strong, both in the offensive and defensive work. Toward the end of play, they weakened considerably, and the second made two touchdowns, one by a blocked kick and the other by hard, consistent rushing from the middle of the field. The Freshmen showed unexpected strength in defensive play, and although there was little team work, the men played with a spirit and dash that was encouraging. Individually the work of Derby at guard and Leather by at halfback was noticeably good.
