E. C. Carter '00, who sailed from Boston for India on, October 8, 1902, to become a travelling secretary of the Young Men's Christian Association Movement in the Bengal Presidency and the Punjab, has been appointed by the Indian National Council, General Secretary for the Association work in all India. Mr. Carter, who was for three years general secretary of the Christian Association in the University, went to India on the invitation of the National Council as a representative from the Harvard Association. His work has been among the college and university centres of northern India, in which are a very large number of students.--there being for instance, in Calcutta, alone, 12,000 men in the universities, and 40,000 boys in the preparatory schools. Calcutta will be the headquarters of Mr. Carter's new work as General Secretary for India.
