LIGHT PRACTICE YESTERDAY

Scrimmage Given Over Entirely to Punting.--Parker Tried at Centre.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In the University football practice yesterday the time was devoted to detailed preliminary work and to an easy scrimmage given up entirely to punting. A shift was made in the end positions, Hall being tried at left end in place of O'Brien, who was not out yesterday on account of a lame leg. Macdonald has strained his back, and although he was out, did not take part in the scrimmage. Parker was played at centre in the scrimmage. Newhall was out in his football clothes, but did not play in the line-up. Knowlton's leg is improving rapidly, and there is a slight chance that he, as well as Montgomery, may be in the game tomorrow.

The punting practice lasted 43 minutes, but was very light. Although the first eleven did very ragged work in receiving the kicks, the men were fast in getting down the field. Squires, especially played a brilliant game and made some excellent tackles. Burr did the punting for the, first eleven and made several long, high kicks. The only feature of the scrimmage was a dodging 30-yard run by Starr after receiving a punt.

The line-up: FIRST ELEVEN.  SECOND ELEVEN. Hall, l.e.  r.e., Giddings, Shurtleff Brill, l.f.  r.t., Pell Burr, l.g.  r.g., Stephenson White, Parker, c.  c., Horkheimer Kersburg, r.g.  l.g., Brown Squires, r.t.  l.t., Harrison Leary, Snyder, r.e.  l.e., Clark, Blagden Starr, q.b.  q.b., Sortwell Foster, l.h.b.,  r.h.b., Heilborn Hurley, r.h.b.  l.h.b., Lockwood Paul, f.b.  f.b., Hanley
