Forty-two men reported on Tuesday of last week in response to the call issued by Captain Bowman for candidates for battery positions on the university baseball team, and at the same time fifty-seven candidates reported for infield and outfield positions on the freshman nine. Indoor practice for all candidates is now being held in the cage and will continue until the weather permits outdoor work.

A course of instruction in sight-singing was inaugurated last week by Mr. Frank Damrosch of New York and will be continued under the direction of Mr. William E. Haesche, instructor in instrumentation in the music department.

During the past week two fast hockey games were played by the university team and a team composed of graduates. In the first game, which was played in New York, the graduates won, the score being 9 to 6. On Saturday a second game was played at the New Haven Lawn Club, the university team winning by a score of 8 to 3. By defeating the University of Pennsylvania in basketball last Friday evening, Yale is now at the head of the intercollegiate league. Under the charge of S. Fish, Jr., '05, the candidates for the freshman crew are daily rowing in the tanks at the gymnasium. The university candidates are again using the rowing machines, which proved so successful last year.

At a meeting of the class of 1905 the following Senior Promenade Committee was elected: D. I. Meier, chairman, P. V. Davis, J. G. Rogers, H. McL. Turner, H. A. Gardner, Jr., H. A. Raymond, and S. Fish, Jr., of New York City. The four representatives from the scientific department for the Prom. Committee were elected on November 21, and are as follows: J. E. Johnson, floor manager, H. F. Grant, M. H. Bowman, Jr., and R. P. Kinney. Twenty-seven members of the class of 1906 were elected to membership in the Phi Beta Kappa at a meeting held on Wednesday evening.

The annual meeting for the election of officers of the university football association were held on Friday of last week. E. White '06 of St. Paul, Minn., was unanimously elected president and manager for next season, and H. S. Knox '07, of Washington, D. C., was chosen assistant manager. R. C. Tripp '06S., of Chicago, Ill., was elected vice-president and L. Daniels '07, of St. Paul, Minn., secretary.
