The University base ball team will play Brown University at Providence this afternoon at 3 o'clock in the first of two games. The second will be played at Cambridge on May 31.

Judging by the record of past games the brown team is strong, though not exceptionally so. It has beaten Yale once in two games, and has been beaten twice by Princeton, both times, however, by close scores. The second game was won by Princeton in the ninth inning by 1 to 0. Brown has also defeated Dartmouth by the scores of 4 to 3 and 7 to 2, Bates by 2 to 1 and Tufts 4 to 3. It lost to Holy Cross on April 19 by the score of 8 to 5. In its most recent games the Brown team has shown great improvement over the work of the early part of the season. Tift has pitched steadily, and at times brilliantly. The batting also has improved and the main weakness seems to be in fielding, as this is somewhat erratic. Last year the University team did not meet Brown as both games were cancelled on account of bad weather. In 1903 Harvard won by the score of 5 to 0.

The batting order: HARVARD.  BROWN. Mahar, r.f.  3b., Hoye Randall, l.b.  s.s., Jones Leonard, 3b.  c., Higgins Matthews, s.s.  p., Tift Stephenson, c.  r.f., Paine Dexter, C.f.  l.f., Hamilton Kernan, l.f.  2b., Dickinson Castle, Coburn, p.  1b., Thomas Kemble, 2b.  c.f., Sweeney
