Third Freshman Football Practice

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Yesterday afternoon the Freshman football candidates were given a long practice on Soldiers Field. Seven teams were formed, and for an hour and a half were run through the more simple formations. At the same time extra linemen not on any of the seven teams were coached in breaking through, falling on the ball, and in running down under punts. No scrimmage, however, took place. Coach Derby directed the teams in signal practice, while J. W. Cutler '09 instructed the backs in punting.

As a whole the work was satisfactory. All the men showed a willingness to enter the game with spirit, and a fast signal practice resulted. The chief fault of the backs was their eagerness to get underway before the ball was passed.

Teams A, B, and C lined up as follows:

Team A--r.e., Beard; r.t., Jordan; r.g., Beaman; c., Bowers; l.g., Munroe; l.t., Foster; l.e., Peirce; q.b., Brown; r.h., Enos; l.h., Bloomer; f.b., Hoffstot.

Team B--r.e., Fall; r.t., Macleod; r.g., West; c., Eastabrook; l.g., Marvin; f.t., Blanchard; l.e., Emerson; q.b., MacVeagh; l.h., deRham; r.g., Gilbert; f.b., Grant.

Team C--r.e., Whitney; r.t., Peters; r.g., F. H. Parker; c., Boyer; l.g., Bigelow; l.t., Giles; l.c., Whitney; q.b., Parsons; r.h., Metcalf; l.h., Thayer; f.b., G. A Parker.
