First Practice Game of Baseball Team

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Yesterday afternoon the University baseball team played its first practice game of the season with the second in a six-inning match on the Freshman diamond. Although much drier than heretofore, the field was still very soggy about the pitcher's box and the home plate, making accurate work impossible. The ragged fielding may be partly accounted for by the cold wind which blew across the field. Neither team was aggressive, and both were careless in the execution of the minor details practiced in the Cage. In running bases the men were inclined to be shiftless, and the coaches at first and third bases lacked judgment in directing the plays. The general depression caused by the cold weather, however, made yesterday's practice inconclusive.

The teams will probably line up again this afternoon, and if there is no more rain the game with the University of Vermont tomorrow will be played as scheduled.

In yesterday's practice the teams lined up as follows: FIRST TEAM.  SECOND TEAM. Lincoln, Snyder, Nash, p.  p., Snyder, Lincoln, Nash Stephenson, Carlisle, c.  c., Currier, Carlisle Burr, 1b.  1b., McCarty McCall, 2b.  2b., Kemble Simons, s.s.  s.s., Smith Leonard, 3b.  3b., Harvey Pounds, r.f.  r.f., Powers Hellman, c.f.  c.f., Wickersham Dexter, l.f.  l.f., Nichols
