N. W. Niles '09, defeated C. C. Pell '08, yesterday afternoon in the finals of the University singles tennis tournament, thus becoming champion for the second time. Last year, J. M. Morse '07, the captain of the tennis team, was defeated, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, and yesterday Niles again won a one-sided victory, C. C. Pell '08, captain of this year's tennis team, losing in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, 6-0.

In the first set Niles had things very much his own way. Pell's underhand shots were hard, but he was unsteady. In the second set Pell underhand shots were hard, but he was unsteady. In the second set Pell played carefully and both he and Niles lobbed a great deal. In the third set Niles played much better and Pell was outclassed. The last game, however, was hotly contested, being won by Niles after going to deuce.

There will be no tennis matches today. The finals in the doubles will be played early next week, consisting of the following match: C. C. Pell '08 and G. P. Gardner '10 vs. N. W. Niles '09 and A. S. Dabney '09. The interclass tournament will begin on Monday.
