The University tennis team defeated Princeton in its first dual match at Princeton on Saturday by the score of 8 to 1. Princeton won the contest in doubles between Dixon and Pyne and Harlow and Pearson. This match was won only after three sets of hard tennis, in which Princeton excelled in net play, and Harlow and Pearson at the back line. The closest match was between Dixon and Pearson, the latter winning the third set by the narrow margin of 8 games to 6. The playing of Captain Morse against Captain Richardson was especially brilliant, in spite of the stiff wind, which made accurate tennis most difficult.

The summary is as follows:

Singles-Reggio (H.) defeated Gordon (P.), 10-8, 6-4; Morse (H) defeated Richardson (P.), 6-4, 6-2; Pell (H.) defeated Beers (P.), 6-2, 6-3; Harlow (H.) defeated Pyne (P.), 6-4, 6-3; Pearson (H.) defeated Dixon (P.), 5-7, 6-2, 6-8; Dabney (H.) defeated Norton (P.), by default.

Doubles-Morse and Pell (H.) defeated Beers and Richardson (P.), 1-6, 9-7, 6-2; Dabney and Reggio (H.) defeated Gordon and Norton (P.), 4-6, 6-3, 7-5; Dixon and Pyne (P.) defeated Harlow and Pearson (H.), 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
