The University nine again showed its calibre yesterday when it defeated the Pilgrims 8 to 1 in a game which was played under anything but ideal conditions. A cold mist hindered the pitchers somewhat but did not seem to affect the hitting, as the University team secured 12 safeties. Three double plays, together with long hits by Nash and Harte served to enliven an otherwise uninteresting game. McLaughlin, the Pilgrim's pitching captain was hit freely during his stay in the box. He was relieved by Davis, who was more successful and allowed but two hits in three innings. Whitney and Garritt pitched well for the University. Brickley was out of the game because of a slight indisposition, but will be back again for the game with Princeton on Friday.
The summary:
Earned runs--Harvard 6, Pilgrims 1. Sacrifice hits--Abbot, Wingate. Stolen bases--Abbot. Three-base hits--Harte, Reed. Home run--Nash. Bases on balls--Whitney 2, McLaughlin 1. Left on bases--Harvard 5, Pilgrims 6. Struck out--Whitney 3, Garritt 3, McLaughlin 1, Davis 3. Double Plays--Abbot to Nash, Gannett to Harte to Nash, Fripp to Dowd to McLaughlin. Passed ball--Harte. Time--1h., 50m. Umpire--McLaughlin.
