PUTNAM TO LECTURE ON PREPAREDNESS PROBLEMS

England's Position in Present War Will Also be Discussed by Noted Publisher.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Mr. G. H. Putnam, of the firm G. H. Putnam Sons, publishers, will give an address in the Living Room of the Union this evening at 8 o'clock, on the subject of England and her position in this war and the problem of preparedness in the United States.

Mr. Putnam, besides being president of the famous publishing house bearing his name, has written and edited many books on various subjects. Some of his most important works are: "Books and Their Makers in the Middle Ages." "Abraham Lincoln--the People's Leader in the Struggle for National Existence," and contributions to the "Encyclopedia Britannica," besides many articles in various publications both here and abroad.

He has delivered many speeches throughout the country on the National defence and preparedness problem this winter and is widely sought after as a lecturer.

He believes that England, in this European contest, is fighting not merely for her own existence and for the fulfillment of her obligations, but also for the maintenance of the principles of representative government and civilization. It is his idea, too, that England and the Allies are making a fight in defence of the United States. His subject is a vitally interesting one at this time and his views are such as to arouse deep interest in his hearers.
