SEVEN POINTS FOR '26 DEFEATS SECOND TEAM

CHEEK AND McGLONE ACCOUNT FOR ONLY SCORES

In a game, hard-fought from the outset, the Freshman eleven overcame Coach Knox's Second Varsity on Soldiers Field yesterday afternoon by the score of 7-0.

The lone tally came early in the first period, when, by a series of line plunges, the yearlings carried the ball from mid-field to the scrub four yard line and Cheek went over for the score. McGlone drop-kicked the goal for the extra point. The black jerseys missed several opportunities to tally, partly, through fumbling, and partly through inability to penetrate the yearling line at a crucial moment.

This lack of concentrated attack was demonstrated in the second period. J. M. Cooper, the scrub tackle, blocked a kick by McGlone and, recovering the ball, raced well into the Freshman territory before he was downed. Employing end runs and off-tackle plays, the Seconds managed to carry the ball to the yearling five-yard line, but here they lacked the punch to carry the ball over and were held for downs.

Coach Knox sent in an entire new team in the third period, while a number of substitutions were made in the 1926 line-up. During this period the ball changed hands several times, neither team being able to gain consistently. In the last quarter several of the scrub regulars returned to the line-up, and the Seconds opened up with a forward passing game in a vain effort to score.

The opening line-ups were as follows: UNIVERSITY SECONDS  1926 Dempsey, l.e.  r.e., Sanchez Litchfield, l.t.  r.t., Fordyce J. M. Cooper, l.g.  r.g., Bradford Gross, c.  c., Adie C. B.
