CRIMSON LACROSSE TEAM DEFEATED 5-2

Playing before the largest crowd in the history of lacrosse at the University in many years, the Crimson twelve went down to defeat at the hands of the combined Oxford-Cambridge team on Soldiers Field by the score of 5 to 2 yesterday afternoon.

The unexcelled stick-work and superior team-play of the English team accomplished the downfall of the University twelve which was unable either to stop the accurate passes made by the opposing twelve or to use the same tactics in spite of keeping the ball in the English territoroy during most of the second half. By a massed formation on the defence, the opponents crushed the Crimson attack time and time again. The fleet-footed British forwards, who showed unquestionable superiority in handling both the stick and the ball while on the run, pentrated Coach Caton's defence with little difficulty.

Britishers Begin Scoring

The visitors opened the scoring after ten minutes of scrimmaging when a British attacking trio advanced from midfield abreast and, passing frequently to outwit the Crimson defence, caged a short shot for the initial goal. Their second score came several minutes later on a short twist shot by Wansbrough. Gallup and Thomas each has shots at the British goal but the University attack was weak, the half ending 2-0.

Treanor opened the scoring for the University after a minute of play in the second half when he raced half the length of the field, avoiding the Blue and White defence, and slipped in an easy shot at close range. The Crimson playing took a brace at this point and the passing improved, the ball being constantly near the British goal. Finally Neylan repeated, this time for the visitors, Treanor's spectacular run for the third score. The fourth and fifth followed by Hopkins and Wansbrough. The second Crimson tally was made by Cole as the result of a scrimmage before the English goal just before the final whistle.
