To Be Open Daily During Period Until 11 O'clock at Night--Will Be in Use in Christmas Vacation

The library fund of the Union will be increased by $300 to swell the supply of books to be used during the Reading Period, it was announced yesterday by Davidson Sommers, 1L, graduate secretary of the organization.

The books will be kept on a special shelf, accessible only to members of the Union; they may be used for an unlimited time but may not be taken out at night.

The Union will be open during the entire Christmas vacation. An extension of hours has been announced during January, when the library will be open from 9 o'clock in the morning until 11 o'clock at night.

A list of the books purchased will be made public before Christmas. As many books as possible will be bought and it is probable that more money is forthcoming if the present sum proves insufficient. Lists of the volumes needed by the departments in which the Reading Period will be enforced are to be submitted by Christmas. The books will be selected according to the size and importance of the department. There has always been an emphasis in the Union Library on books used by the English department.

An expensive set of books will not be purchased to secure one volume for the Reading Period it was announced. The graduate secretary pointed out that the Reading Room contains comfortable chairs and that smoking is allowed.
