Harvard students will be allowed to ride on the subway from Harvard Square to North Cambridge if the plan for extension which has been advocated by the North Cambridge Board of Trade receives the approval of the city and state governments, according to announcements made recently by John F. Griffin, Secretary to the Board.

At the North Cambridge railroad crossing, the extension of the subway will meet the extension of the Lechmere rapid transit over the roadbed of the abandoned Boston and Maine Railroad.

Surface cars will be eliminated between Harvard Square and North Cambridge, and the road will be cleared of the numerous traffic islands. In the past, reckless motorists have damaged 117 of these traffic islands, often injuring themselves. The abolition of these islands will be one considerable advantage of the proposed change.
