After two weeks of outdoor practice the Varsity tennis team has begun to shape up well and by Friday, April 27, when an informal match will be played with the Bates tennis team, the first six men will be definitely chosen. On Saturday, April 28 the first formal match will be played with the Cornell team, who are reported to be strong this spring.
The first four men on the team are veterans from last year, ranking in the order listed: Sandy Davenport, John Ray, Frank Jones, and Franklin Whitbeck. The last two places on the team are being hotly contested by Germain Glidden, John Wilkinson, Sumner Rodman, and Carl Helmholz.
The Freshman tennis squad of 16 is well balanced according to Coach Harry Cowles; and as a result of several test matches the first six men have been chosen. Scheduled to play in the Jayvee match Saturday are Jim Fuld, Richard Dorson, William Minot, Andy Page, Nelson Pell, and Lawrence Rose.
