Creation of the position of Director of the Biological Laboratories of the University and the appointment of Alfred C. Redfield '14, professor of Physiology, as first director were announced today by President Conant.
This move follows closely upon the consolidation of the departments of Botany. Zoology, and General Physiology into a single department of Biology. The appointment of the new director is a step toward the coordination of these fields with a view to emphasizing their common interests.
It is a generally conceded fact that since the completion of the Biological Laboratories Building in 1932, the University has had one of the most complete institutions in the world for research and experiment.
In this structure are housed all of the well-established biological fields: the activities of plants, their inheritance, their diseases and the remedies for these ills.
