FAIRBANK TALK OPENS '41 FRIDAY DISCUSSIONS

"Japan's Dilemma in China" will be the subject of a talk to be given by John K. Fairbank, instructor of History, in the Upper Common Room of the Union at 7 o'clock tonight. The talk will be the first in a series of five Friday evening discussion groups sponsored by the Freshman unit of the Student Union and featuring remarks on current history by members of the faculty.

Hopper, wild, Sweezy, Black

Next Friday evening Bruce C. Hopper '24, associate professor of Government, will speak on "Russia Looks Westward." On November 12 the speaker will be Payson S. Wild, assistant professor of Government. His topic has not yet been announced.

The final two talks will be by Alan R. Sweezy '29, instructor of Economics, an December 3, who will speak on "The CIO Digs In," and by John D. Black, Henry Lee Professor of Economics, on December 10, who has announced his topic as "Should the Government Control Agriculture?"

Members of the Freshman unit of the Student Union will dine at 6 o'clock before each discussion. The first two discussions are announced as open to all but the last three will be for members only. The committee in charge plans to throw them open also, if sufficient interest is shown in the reject.

This is the first time since the organization of the Student Union that a Freshman unit has undertaken to put on a program of its own. Later in the year they will work into the activities of the parent organization. Laurence S. Levy '39, a member of the executive committee of the Student Union, is acting as Freshman adviser.

Chairman of the Speakers' Committee of the Freshman unit, in charge of running the discussion groups, is Roger Clapp. Millbank Pillsbury is secretary of the committee, while other members include Langdon Marvin, Lee Marx, and Robert Stange.
