Varsity Tournament Is Scheduled for Next Week

Pulling away from 16 other contestants, Robert O. Miller yesterday completed his clean-up of the Freshman fencing tourney by winning the finals in the sabre event.

Eliminations in the contest have been going on all week until only four were left for the finals. On Wednesday afternoon, in the epee finals, swordsman Miller tied swordsmen Park and Croach and then took the event in the fence-off.

A native of St. Louis, young Miller is one of the outstanding prospects on the Yardling team in years. He won all his seven bouts against Yale, a rare feat, and then went down to the Freshman Intercollegiates in New York and won a Clemens medal for his excellence.

Likewise held under the direction of Rene Peroy, fencing coach, the Varsity tourney gets under way early next week, reaching its climax when the finals are reached on Friday. With 16 having participated in the Freshman eliminations, about 25 are expected to turn out for the Varsity.
