G. A. R. VETERAN, CLASS OF '79 FOUND IN BED AND IN COMA

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Dr. William H. Emery '79, Civil War veteran who celebrated his 90th birthday last May, was found in a come at his Roxbgury home yesterday morning. The aged physician had lived the life of a recluse in the same house for 57 years. Police rushed him to City Hospital, but could not say now long he had been in bed.

Doctor Maurice O'Connell of the hospital reported that he was suffering from serious under-nourishment, and though he probably would recover, his name was placed on the danger list. Emery is the last surviving member of G. A. R. Post 26 of Roxbury, and served in the 64th Massachusetts infantry, during the Civil War.

A niece, Mrs. Helen E. Hapgood, said, "For years we have been trying to get him to go some place where younger and stronger people could attend to his needs. He never would go, preferring his own house and his own society. He is not rich, but has sufficient money."
