STUDENTS KIDNAP BOOKIE'S HENCHMAN, GET BACK $250

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Some "on-the-ball" rathouse dwellers saved themselves $250 yesterday afternoon when they caught the assistant of a chiseling bookie, gave him the third degree, and made him return their checks.

The bookie's stooge had come around to their door a few days ago, offered them 6 1/2 to 5 on Yale, and had quickly received bets on the Alma Mater by every one present. Winners were to go downtown to the "Old Coffee House" after the game, ask for "Yorkie," and collect their money.

One of the Mt. Auburn Street boys became suspicious when he saw that the published odds were 2 to 1 on Harvard. He called up the bank and stopped payment on all the checks. Then he and his cronies kidnapped the assistant with lures of more bets, holding him until he confessed.
