Only War to Cause Shift Of New London Crew Race

Provided the country is still at peace on June 14, the New London races will come off as usual. Such is the heartening news coming out of New Haven which effectively stifles the myriad rumors about the Government forbidding, because of defense secrets, the annual four-miles grind on the Thames this year.

Pessimists who were wondering whether the notorious Griswold had an equal at Springfield, Poughkeepsie, or in any of the other places reported as the site for this year's race, may now rest assured that the only thing different about the 1941 festivities is that they occur a week earlier.

The submarine base, an endless string of dull-red buildings situated at the two-mile mark and previously objectionable only while it obscured the racing crews, was supposed to be the reason why the Government was ordering the race to be held elsewhere.
