PURITANS AND BELLBOYS WIN

Lowell Takes Dunster 34-23 As Winthrop Nips Deacons

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Defending their 1941 basketball championship the Lowell Bellboys beat Dunster's five by a score of 34 to 23, on the Indoor Athletic Building courts yesterday. The game was follows by the Winthrop-Kirkland contest which finally went to the Puritans, 19 to 17.

Lowell led all the way against the Funsters in a loosely played contest. Starring for the Bellboys were Dave Barnett, high scorer with ten points, and Bill Thomson, who covered the where court to amass eight counters. For the Dunster quintet Sam Post and Jim Silberling led the forward line in scoring.

In a game which was as carelessly played as the Dunster-Lowell contest, the Winthrop quintet held their one goal lead for the last minute and a half of play for the 19-17 win over the Deacons.

Standouts for the Puritans were Jim Faust and Dave Loring, who between them accounted for the majority of the Winthrop tallies. Faust was a particular aid to the Puritan cause with his accurate long shots.

On the losing side Mac Broderick showed considerable skill at left guard both on the defensive and offensive. Chief handicap of the Deacon five was their man to man defense, which was not sufficiently polished to stand up against the Puritan attack.
