First it was radishes. Not holly-hocks. Not geraniums. Nothing majestic and beautiful; not even GOP sunflowers. Just plain garden-variety radishes. But the curious public soon cleaned out the Yard's first useful food crop, and it seemed that grass would, after all, be the main product of several months' tilling of the soil.

Then came the pigeons in tens, in hundreds, in--well, they came. They, too, were soon ignored, however, for the Tercentenary Theatre was a much newer proposition to Dudley denizens than the feathered flends.

But nature's cycle has returned to the vegetarian stage once more, and Yard-birds awake at an early hour can glimpse the first tender leaves of lettuce peeking up between Harvard and Hollis. Meat-eaters look forward eagerly to the expected influx of rabbit.
