HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
Seven colleges, including Harvard, sent delegates yesterday to Phillips Brooks House to discuss international relations and to draft plans for the coming Chicago Convention of a National Students' Union.
The Student Council's Committee on International Relations played host to representatives from M.I.T., Northeastern, Radcliffe, Suffolk, Gordon, and Wheaton colleges, all of the metropolitan Boston area, at a joint meeting in the council Chambers.
Douglass Cater '45, chairman of the International Relations Committee, outlined the activities of his group to the other college delegates. The representatives compared their plans for stimulating interest for international affairs at their respective institutions and for cooperation with the International Union of Students.
Plan for Convention
Explaining that the object of the Chicago Convention will be to draft plans for a constitution of the proposed National Students' Union, Cater stressed that delegates should press for representation of their colleges at the conference.
Reports from Smith College last night indicated that 15 institutions in western Massachusetts would be represented at the Chicago meeting. The University will send four delegates to the conference: two from the College, and two from the Graduate Schools.
