Quick Evacuation Of Rooms Urged By Dean Watson

Students vacating or changing rooms at mid-year were urged yesterday by Robert B. Watson '37, associate dean of the College and director of undergraduate housing, to evacuate their suites immediately after their last examination to make space for men scheduled to arrive in Cambridge beginning Wednesday, January 29.

Predicting that during February the housing situation will be "very tight," Watson asserted that no man intending to move should leave town after exams without clearing his room. Those unable to enter new suites by 5 o'clock, January 29, should report to the superintendent of the building to which they are assigned rooms are cleared, he said.

Of the approximately 480 men arriving in February, the University will house about 285. Applications are still coming in at the rate of about five a day, and Watson disclosed that from 50 to 100 men would be forced to live at Hemenway Gym temporarily.
