Crimson Morale Hits Peak For Holy Cross Test Today

Game to Match Beef vs. Tricks

By William S. Fairfield

Injury-riddled but high in morale, Dick Harlow's Crimson eleven faces a beefy and slightly favored Holy Cross team this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Stadium.

An estimated crowd of 35,000, turning out on what is slated to be the hottest October 17 in recent Cambridge history, should see the Crimson open up with every trick in the books in an effort to offset the Crusaders' 21 pound per man weight advantage.

To the frustration of pessimistic forecasters, Harvard has bounced back from its 47 to 0 shellacking at the hands of Virginia and in this week's practice sessions looked more like a football team--with greater accuracy and more drive--than at any time since the pre-season scrimmages against Boston College.

Weather Man

After the Crimson's workout in the sunny South last week, the weather man might be said to be favoring the Varsity today--but the injuries incurred at Charlottesville far over-balance any benefit in physical conditioning.

With fullback and captain Vince Moravec out for the season and stellar passer Jim Kenary sidelined indefinitely, Dick Harlow has been forced to make some drastic switches, not only in his starting lineup but also in the backfield posts.

Precise, shifty Jim Noonan has been switched from quarterback to tailback and will start in that slot replacing the injured Kenary. To fill Moravec's capable shoes the best Harlow has been able to find is a conglomerate fullback.

Lazzaro on Offense

Fast-starting but small (174 pounds) Paul Lazzaro, the Crimson's most consistent ground-gainer against Virginia last week, will get the nod for most of the offensive chores with converted end Wally Flynn helping out. Flynn, George Goodrich, and Sam Adams, recently brought up from the Jayvees, will take over on defense and back up the line.

Gorezynski Slated for Action

Reserve tackle John Gorezynski's return to the squad Thursday and hissubsequent speed and fight in practice indicate that the 220 pounder will see a good deal of action this afternoon.

Although the verbal battle between Dick Harlow and Crusader head mentor "Ox" DaGrosa over an allegedly illegal screen-pass used by the latter has filled the local dailies for the past week, it is unlikely that spectators will get to see the play today.
