Jayvees Stun Brown, 18-14, As Mauran Sparks Offense

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Yesterday afternoon the Jayvee football team saw how the other half--the winning half--lives. Suddenly catching fire in the second and third quarters to pour across three touchdowns, the Jayvees hung on through a fourth stanza barrage of Brown desperation passes to pull out their first major win of the campaign. The score was Harvard 18, Brown 14.

Mauran Scores Twice

Ben McCabe's squad, which couldn't seem to do anything right in its last few games, couldn't do anything wrong against the baffled Bruins. They thoroughly outcharged the Brown forward wall during the first three quarters of the game, intercepted half a dozen misdirected Bruin passes, and tackled like men possessed.

Midway in the second period, fullback Dune Mauran broke loose on a 25-yard buck through the entire Brown team. In the third period Mauran scored again on a two-yard plunge, this time carrying a pair of Bruins on his back.

A few seconds later George Emmons, a borrowed Varsity end, seized an intended Brown screen pass and scooted 40 yards before being halted on the ten. Three plays worked the ball to the two and on fourth down wingback Rick Hudner scored on a shallow reverse.

Brown scored twice in the final minutes after recovering fumbles deep in Crimson territory.

The Crimson lineup: Leavitt, le; Connerly, lt; Rosenan, lg; Waring, c; Stensrud, rg; Cowen, rt; Sawyer, re; Moore, qb; Kenny, wb; Stearns, tb; Colton, fb.
