Elis Flatten Wrestlers, 17-9; Freshmen Score 14-12 Win

The bouts didn't go as predicted, but Yale's aggressive; well-conditioned Varsity wrestling team won just the same. Taking four of the first five classes, the Blue from New Haven won a decisive 17 to 9 victory from Chief Boston's wrestling team last Saturday at the Blockhouse.

Although the Varsity continued the recently-hallowed tradition of losing to Yale, Howie Schless' undefeated Yard-lings saved the afternoon from complete disaster by edging the Eli Freshmen, 14 to 12. Chief Bender's win in the unlimited bout decided the match for the Crimson.

The victory over Yale which closed the season made Schless' Yardling wrestlers the only undefeated team of the year.

King, Louria, Fuller, Win

In the Varsity match, the Crimson took three decisions, in the 130, the 165, and unlimited classes. Buddy King, facing the Yale captain at 136, escaped in the last period to pull a 3 to 2 upset win for Harvard; while three classes up, Don Louria alternately scored nearfalls and reversals to pile up the largest margin of the day, a 13 to 5 decision over Bill Julion. Captain Pete Fuller took the only other bout for the Varsity, an unexpectedly close 3 to 1 decision over heavyweight Tom Thomas of Yale.

In the lightweights the Blue had little trouble as George Hastlings untpointed Dave Coombs. 3 to 0, at 121 and Larry Leeds beat 128-pounder Pat Bowditch, 11 to 2. Strong and experienced Bill Niewenhous scored an upset for Yale by beating hitherto undefeated Dan Ray at 145, while Frank Mansell pinned Jim Couant at 155 in 6:21. Jack Howard edged Bob Claflin, 4 to 0, to take the 175-pound class and the last win of the afternoon for Yale.
