"Exceptional ability and promise" have won 11 Massachusetts students one of the University's most unique awards--a National Scholarship, the Committee on Scholarships announced yesterday.
These prizes, which were originated in 1934 at the behest of President Conant, are intended to provide an income for winners who maintain honor records not only through College, but also through a Graduate School, if they desire to attend one.
950 Competitors
Over 950 high school and prep school seniors have competed for the Scholarships this year. Winners will be chosen from all 48 states.
Recipients are: Richard L. Becker of Phillips Academy, Andover, Donald L. M. Blackmer of Harrow, England. Martin A. Chooljian of Haverhill High, Gerald P. Fitzgerald of Weymouth High, John H. T. Harvey of Doerfield Academy, Norman D. Levine of Boston Public Latin, Robert J. Mroceck of South Hadley High, Chase N. Peterson of Middlesex School, Peter P. Sorokin of Winchester High, David B. Tyack of Phillips Exeter Academy, and David A. Yphantis of Boston Public Latin.
