Swimmers To Face Tech In Season's Bow

MIT provides the varsity swimming team with its first collegiate competition of the year, as the Crimson's official season opens at 8:45 p.m. tonight in the Engineers pool.

The squad is in much better shape than Ulen predicted two weeks ago. Bill Graham has strengthened the breast-stroke division and will swim the middle lap of the 300-yard medley relay. Dick Wheeler and Rone Vietman should go in the 200-yard race.

Wier Will Dive

Tom Woods and John Steinhart lead the backstrokers; Woods is top man, but Steinhart has often done better at short distances and may get the relay assignment. Gordon Wier and Jim Manheim will do the diving.

Freestylers Lowell Sachnoff and Pete Bierre will probably swim the 440, Bob Berke and Doug Kinney the 220, and Captain Joe Fox, Mort Hull, and Shep Brown, the sprints.

Bill Brooks' freshman squad takes on the Engineers in the '53 season opener at 7:30 p.m.
