Today is 9/28/49, the last day on which Harvard men may pay their first term bills without incurring frightful penalties.

The first bill, a soft little item with a quarter of the tuition and the ever-present medical fee, will become a deadly weapon in the hands of the Bursar if not paid in time.

The small print at the bottom of the bill explains it all: "deprived of the privileges of the University . . . reinstatement is obtained by consent of the Dean . . . fine of $10,00 for late payment."
