Wallace E. Howell '36, will try to make rain for New York City by Sunday, the Blue Hill meteorologist said yesterday.
The City hired Howell at $100 a day to boost its depleted water supply. Howell arrived yesterday in New York and inspected police aviation equipment with Mayor William O'Dwyer.
In the initial phases of the experiment, two police twin-engine planes will carry 100 pounds of dry ice pellets and sew them among rain-bearing clouds to set up a chain reaction bringing rain. Howell stated that he made no promises of snecess.
Howell spent part of yesterday briefing several fliers in preparation for het weather operation.
