60 Win National Scholar Awards

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

National Scholarships have been awarded to 51 students from 18 states outside of New England, the Committee on Scholarships announced last night. The Committee also disclosed that nine of the awards were given to young men from New England.

Over 1200 seniors and recent graduates from high schools throughout the country competed for the scholarship this year.

National Scholarships are awarded to men of exceptional ability who have distinguished themselves in extra-curricular as well as scholastic activities. The size of the award, which was first established in 1934, varies with the financial circumstances of the recipient in each case.

Each scholarship will be renewed throughout the student's career at college and at graduate school if he maintains the requisite honor grades.

National scholarships were started as one of the first new policies of the Conant administration.
