Sapers Clears Up False Information In Seminar Story

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Carl Sapers, chairman of the International Activities Committee of the Student Council, last night issued a statement saying material from his office used in a CRIMSON story about the International Student Center in Germany was untrue. The statement ran as follows:

"The I.A.C. regrets that it allowed fallacious information to be takes from the committee office and be printed in the April 14 edition of the CRIMSON. Realizing the respect the CRIMSON has for printing the truth, we should like to correct the misstatement about one of our members, Robert L. Fischelis '49. Contrary to the statement in the paper there were no 'Spanish Communists' at the Continuations Committee meeting of the Seminar. Furthermore, Fischelis reported that at no time was the issue of Communism discussed at the conference which met to plan next summer's seminar in student mutual aid. We should also like to take this opportunity to thank the CRIMSON for its interest in the Council's international activities and for the cooperation which the staff of the paper has gives us."

The mistake occurred Wednesday when Sapers started to type a release about the seminar. After writing one paragraph, he decided to postpone the release date and for the amusement of Fischells, added two paragraphs containing bogus material. Fischells read the material without comment. It was not made clear to the CRIMSON reporter, Sapers agreed that the statement was a joke; he did not, understand that it was not to run
