J. V. Eleven Faces Nichols Today in Season's Opener

Two thoroughly undetermined quantities--the Crimson junior varsity football squad and the Nichols Jr. College team--will meet at 2:30 p.m. today on the Junior Varsity Field.

Coach Norm Shepard isn't saying anything about his eleven, and he's got even less to say about the Nichols squad. "I don't even know whether they'll use a single-wing or a T-formation," Shepard said. Last year, Nichols trounced the junior varsity, 33 to 18.

The Jayvees will work from a T-formation, which is Washington University's style of attack. Walt Greeley, star passer of last year's Winthrop House football team, will be at quarterback to engineer the offense, sophomore Joe Conzelman is slated to act as his replacement.

With a single possible exception, Shepard's squad will probably be in top condition. Earlier in the week, two men, Bud Vonderlage and Tony Caimi, were hampered by injuries. Vonderlage, a senior, had trouble with a bad hip, but will definitely start this afternoon.

Sophomore Wally Bregman, although badly shaken up in yesterday's scrimmage with the varsity, will open at one end, with senior Dave Silverman at the other. Sophomores Baird Pfahl and Bill Maloney will be at the tackles, with Fred Horween and possibly Caimi at the guards to round out the line. Bob Zuege and Al Finney at the halfback positions, and Pete Kenney at fullback, combine with Greeley to give Shepard his starting backfield.
